INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Therapy is more than just going to someone to talk about how you are feeling. It is a process or a journey through past experiences and emotions. It allows for you to vent your frustrations and express your emotions in a safe place. It challenges negative thoughts and  encourages self-love. It is a safe place where wounds begin to heal.
In your life, you've experienced lots of things and different people have probably told you how you should live and act, what you should do, or even, how you should handle or respond to situations. At some point, you might have been told "you need to just get over it"; "move on", "it wasn't that bad"; "some people have it much worse than you" or "you just need to figure out a way to heal from this". While those might be quick responses from those around you, it's not how healing happens.
Healing doesn't happen overnight or even over the course of days. Healing is a journey and it starts with talking with someone who is willing to listen in a non-judgmental way. You get to decide how much you would like to share each time. You get to decide what goals you would like to set. You get to decide what your therapy sessions look like. Healing can also be hard. Tears are going to fall and some emotions may be stronger at times. And, that's okay. It's okay to cry. It's okay to hurt and feel. Just know, I am here to listen to you, encourage you, and help you as pursue healing and peace.

Therapist and Patient

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THERAPY:

During the initial session, or the consultation session, your therapist will ask you questions about what brought you into therapy, things you are dealing with, and what it is you would like help with. There will also be an opportunity for you to share some background information so your therapist has a bigger picture of what's going on in your life.
You get to decide your goals and what it is you want to be working on during your sessions. You and your therapist will work together to decide the steps you would like to take in order to achieve your goals. It's okay to not know all the answers, you will have time to discuss that more during your following sessions.
After the initial session, you will have the opportunity process through your situation and your therapist will help guide you as you work toward your goals.
